Leaking Thermostat 900 1994

I have a leak from the thermostat housing on my 94 940. Tbe coolant seeps from the housing (the aluminium part that you remove to replace the thermostat. It leaks faster as the engine accelerates. I have replaced the thermostat and the seal twice. Any ideas? Should I try some type of "Form-A-Gasket" or sealer? Thanks in advance. Chris

Did you replace the gasket? There is a seal which as I remember encircles the thermostat and there is a gasket which seals the two flat metal surfaces between the thermostat housing and the head. I always install new gasket along with gasket goo such as permatex.

This is a tad odd. Never had one leak. Is the surface flat and free from pitting? If so yes give some good RTV a try. Is the seal from Volvo?

I'll admit to having had one leak. That is how I discovered the groove in the cross section of the Volvo seal. Yes, and after several examinations for pitting and corrosion...puzzling over the placement of the seal...being tempted to add a dollup of RTV! Confession is good for the soul.
