My daughter's '88 240 odometer/trip meter is no longer working, because gears were presumably stripped when reset.

Are the gears available from dealer or anywhere else?

Yes, they are available.

From Australia!

VDO USA doesn't sell them, and the speedo shops that do get them all have their sources. One I know of is VDO Australia. And the speedo shops have to make their money, which is why they dont sell them without the rebuild/calibration/warranty.

I don't think anyone on the board has succeeded in finding a source. Other than a shop which wants $100-150 to install and repair, or a junk yard where you might take apart 25 clusters (86-on) to find one with a good gear.

Thanks for responding. Can't see taking it to a Speedo shop. If shops have the gears they must be available somewhere...

Guess daughter's car will be frozen in time at 220k for a while
