Groaning noise from dash 900 1992

My 92 940Turbo sounds possessed when I turn the engine off. It is a five to six second "groan" sound that starts at a particular level of noise and then slowly reduces in noise over the time that it lasts. It sounds like it is coming from the center dash and I suspect a vacuum issue. Also, it seems to be related to the heater/ac system. Any ideas on what this might be? Thanks for any suggestions.

Groaning noise from dash 900 1992

Hi,
My 960 turbo dash groaned at me and the a/c turned off every time I hit the accelerator.

Turned out the one-way valves from the manifold to the heater system had started to leak. The groaning noise might be the air coming in through them.

The good news is that they're cheap to replace.

HTH
Chris

I think you are on the right track. You may have a vacuum leak somewhere. Most likely the inner most vacuum motor. Do the vent settings change under hard acceleration? If it does there is a shortcut fix in the FAQ.
