Engine runs the same (crappy) with or without #3 plug wire and or injector wire, WHY!!?? 200

There is absolutely no change in engine (b23ftI) sound or speed when I completly remove the #3 cylinder plug wire, the exact same is true when I remove the #3 injector wire. So I did the logical things pulled the brand new spark plug and checked for spark... tons of spark! Pulled the fuel rail to check for a malfunctioning or clogged injector... Wow was I ever surprised to see 4 perfectly atomized streams of fuel coming from all injectors. Then I Checked the cylinder compression... 65psi. So why is it that my engine is running on only 3 cylinders? I am sure if #3 came back to life it would run good again.

P.s. There is NO coolant or oil consumption

Please help!

Thank you!

Steve

I had a similar incident once - it turned out to be a cracked distributor cap. It was causing the engine to crossfire to the wrong cylinder. It actually ran better with the wire unplugged and running on three cylinders! New cap fixed the problem.

    Holy sh&t! That's no good.

Do a leakdown test and find out where the voluminous quantity of air is going to. Is there a boatload of blowby when you pull the oil filler cap?

If so, consider perhaps a head gasket cracked into an oil passage.

If there isn't a ton of blowby, is one of the valves screwed up or stuck?

Do a leakdown test and go from there.

Your post said 65 psi, that's a dead one. If it's 65 it's not going to run good without major work (no oil consumption might indicate a really bad valve/pooched cam). Did you check the rest for compression? Some say the lowest cyl should be within 85% of the highest.
