1982 240 DL, 4 spe, does not want to stay running

good afternoon volvo friends,

i have here a 1982 240 2 dr, 4spd. the car sounded strong but would not start. an inspection revealed that the computer was missing.

the computer was replaced with one from a 1982 240 sw also a 4spd. the car attempts to start and started briefly and cut off.

The computer from the SW shouldn't make any difference unless the the computer came from a model with a differenct injection system. There were two different injection systems in 82. LH and K-Jetronic. The LH system has electronic injectors and the K-jectronic has mechanical injectors. Also there were two different ignition systems in use. One has a brown distributor cap (Bosch) and the other white (Chrysler) operate differently. I wouldn't think an EC from one type would work with the other type. You need to check this out before you assume other things are the problem. Let us know what you find out.
