I am done.
I am getting a loan and I am going to end this nightmare.
I will buy a new car.
I will take my sweet time rebuilding the 960.
I will do it properly and with care, 100% to spec.
Then I will bolt it together and sell it.
Why would I even waste my time offering it here??
Because it has a LOT of VERY new parts.
And you all know the whole truth.
And you know I have found the root cause of most of my problems.
And you know it is being fixed properly and without time constraints.
So there you have it.
It is 41 degrees and winds are blowing to 40 mph tonight.
I am done.
I will now go and hug my kids.

Hello Tom:
Read my post near the top of your previous thread. For good or bad, we think alike. As you have said it, I suppose you will be looking real hard at Lexus or Toyota. Let me suggest Jaguar XJ (6, 12 or 8 cylinders, all very reliable since the early nineties, at reasonable prices), or a brand new Honda Accord V6 with leather interior if you are feeling kind of gun shy right now. In the last month or two, one of the car magazines like Road and Track or Car and Driver had a road test comparison in which the Accord and Camry came on top against good competition. Best regards.

I kept my '87 760 turbo diesel running for 4 years. It was not easy, but I put up with the belching smoke, spontaneous oil leaks, replacing pumps, the turbo, every stupid wire, hose, seal...I had to repair or replace. It was a miracle if the f**king thing didn't leave me stranded at work, or on the highway at 2 a.m., or in the middle of an intersection during rush hour at least once a month. When the motor finally blew up, part of me was very relieved. I've owned 5 so far, and currently have an '81 242 GLT, not in bad shape, but my daily driver is a 97 Accord EX-R. I'm not going to shell out 40k for a New Volvo (I don't even really like the new ones)
I'll always own one, but I'll never again depend on one as an only vehicle.

The more I read, the more I think I may have to join you in this endeavour, selling a 1995 960, that is. Mine was, after all, exposed to "Christine" a time or two.
Gotta find somebody who wants to trade a 945 for a 965

The best news is the last sentence in your message. Take it easy, get something reliable, button up the 960, and say goodbye to it with honor. We'll look for you on the Lexus board.

Hehehe...
Any correlation btwn Volvo & Lexus owners?
I dont' OWN one yet... but I can feel the itch starting. Enough hours invested in the mechanicals says the best of Toyota and not too hard to work on... esp the rear drivers.

I'm sure it will make someone a VERY nice car when you're finished with it. Congratulations at making a formal decision. Now you can sleep better.
Let us know what you're getting to replace the 960.

My hat is off to you for recognizing your real treasure.
Having driven my dear old 164 for 31 years, I KNOW how hard
it is, when you really get attached to something like that.
Congratulations.
(Sorry, I am NOT in the market for such a thing, even if I
could afford it.)
BTW are there Fuquas in your family? I am sort of
shirt-tail related to some....
