Proper size for socket to fit crankshaft pulley 200 1986

What is the correct size of wrench or socket to turn the main crankshaft pulley
which drives all the belts on a b230 f motor.
I read somewhere in the archives that the correct size was 22mm but when I tried that it felt too small . Iwant to turn the pulley so as to turn the engine without using the starter.

I used a deep 1" socket on my B230A with no probs, although it is slightly large for the job. I also used a 1" ring spanner with a large offset to turn the engine a few times to check the marks still line up before putting it all back together.

Big Rich.
