b230f oxygen sensor

why is the O2 sensor for the b230 so expensive? and would it be possible to splice longer wires onto a sensor without reducing efficacy?
thanks,
jeremiah

They are costy, but you don't have to replace them every 25,000,mi like most others (mine needed it's first replacement at about 138,000 mi ).
The universals aren't generally recomended. homegrown crimp connections have a habit of giving slightly different resistance readings to the ECU leading to poor running , milage and needing to be replaced sooner( that said, I wouldn't be splicing any wires to lenghthen).

You can pick up a universal Bosch from IPS for approx $40 and solder it in to the existing wire with no problem.
