Throttle cable life expectancy 200 1984

I have about 225,000 mi on my '84 240 diesel, and the throttle cable looks as if it may be original ( but no visible signs of breaking or streatching) and I have lubed it.
Am I flirting with a breakdown with this thing or do they last longer than this?

Thanks--------------Robert

I've got 300k+ on mine. 200 1984

Mine seems to be holding up fine, despite the fact that I broke the plastic nose part where it threads onto the throttle body wheel. It's been operating with a kink in the cable up at that end for several years, still no sign of wear.

Unless the cable rubs against an edge, which it won't if you've never removed it and reinstalled it incorrectly, I'd expect them to last just about forever.

Mike

Thanks, looks like I may not hav a problem fo a while. It still looks good , I've just never seen cables that last this long before.
I was thinking of replacing it but I may just pick up a spare at the boneyard and save a few bucks.
