Clear Tail lights - Unsafe at Any Speed!!!

I cannot understand when these clear tial lights became legal - it used to be that US cars requiredred tail lights, Amber or white front park and signals, and it was illegal to have red or blue lights anywhere on the front of a vehicle - no matter the size - due to emergency/police vehicles having red/blue lights on the front.

Then the euro cars managed to get amber rear signals legal.

Then a about 1 year ago - I notice the clear tail lights - have you ever been behind one of these clowns in the daylight - with bright sun. The red bulbs are almost invisible in daylight.

I have seen blue front park/signal lamps - I have seen red front signal lamps. Where are the law makers - will it take a huge liability suit before anyone notices these ridiculous road shows.

Thanks for letting me vent - roads are for driving - carshows are for light displays.

Amber signals were US legal for some time already. And here in CA, you're excused for amber brake lights on early makes (pre-69, IIRC).

It's always been illegal to have red or blue lights in front, like for turn signals or parking lights. "Other" color lights can be had, but they can't exceed 1.5 candle power.

It's illegal to have all-clear taillights and just a red bulb for brakes. The CVC states that if a brake light is clear, then the inner reflector/lens must be red, which is how those Altezza lights are legal. Much of the existance is because the driver hasn't been caught. It's just a matter of time ... they've cracked down heavily in SoCal.

I can't hate them, though ... a green Tacoma saved me once from a 90mph speeding ticket.

-- Kane ... y'see, it had matching green taillights.

It's not the law makers...it's the law enforcers. Cops can pull over a car for the infractions you mention...whether they do or not is another story. Here in Prince George's County MD I would suspect children would NOT want to be pulled over for such infractions...might get bit by a cop's dog, among other problems.
