I've owned 8 used Volvos since 1983,
but this is the first to pass 300k.

The original engine/manual transmission
are still going strong.
(I kinda wish it were a turbo, though.)

I've got an '81 244 GL with 254K. It's my first Volvo, and I'm loving it. She solid as the day is long mechanically. Paint sucks, and underhood wiring is sketchy at best, but its all worth it when you ride down the road in my cushy courdory sets. Hell yeah. --Shumate

I redid my engine wiring a couple of months ago.
Easier than I had thought, but it took a while and became
a bit tedious. If you do any of your own maintenance you can probably repair your wiring. Look through the archives and FAQ for pointers.

Great results, though: engine runs much better, emissions are down,
and I don't worry about shorts burning out expen$ive Bosch electronic components. I highly advise it.

any secrets to your longevity, besides good maintenance?

Nope, just followed the normal maintenance schedule using good parts and used the clutch gently. These are great, GREAT cars!
