Driver's side window won't go down 700

Hi guys, new here and this is my first post. I just noticed that the driver's side window on my '90 740 wagon won't go down. It seems that there is power if I try to go up with it. Also the driver's side mirror will go in all directions except down. Could there be any relation? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks......... Tom

the first thing i would do is: remove the power window switch (located on the driver's door). to test the driver's window replace the switch from the passenger's side with the switch from the driver's side. if the driver's window works with the passenger's switch in place -- than the problem is a dirty rocker switch contact that is located inside the switch.
remove both switches and clean the dirty rocker then reinstall both switches in their original locations.
to clean the swich, remove teh casing (clear, located just above the three pronges) and clean the the inside.

with regard to the power mirror, there is no connection whatsoever between the power window and the power mirror. the mirror has three cables that manipulate the mirror from the inside. chances are, one of the cables has come off. to rectify this, remove the mirror from the car and inspect the cable connection. removing the mirror is simple: pry out the little triangle located by the driver's window -- you will see two screws holding the mirror, pull those out and now everything will be accessible.

regards,
abe.

Thanks Abe, I solved the window which was dirty contacts but I can't resolve the mirror. I accessed the screws and loosened the mirror but I can not figure out how to get inside the mirror. The mirror itself is loose and I want to tighten it also. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks........ Tom

I'm not an expert, but could a wire be broken, or have intermittent contact at the door hinge area? Probably not, if you seem to be getting power. Is there any whirring to indicate that a mechanical part is broken?

Thanks for your reply Bob. It was dirty contacts for the window but I can't resolve the mirror. I loosened it but I can not figure a way to get inside it.

Thanks..............Tom
