760 SRS fault 700

My SRS warning light came on ,with a fault code five. Using the factory manual and the Volvo resistor, I tried troubleshooting the system. I repaced the airbag with the resistor, and still got the fault five. Checked the connectors and resistances, all checked OK. Will a bad module give this fault code? I'd hate to buy one and find out it wasn't the problem.
Anyone ever come across this?

You cleared the code and then tried again, right? I'm not trying to get stupid about it--seriously, you have to reset it, if you weren't aware.

If you did reset it, the fault code 5 is a generic BS code. It trips almost anytime there's a voltage fault to the SRS system. Try cleaning the battery contacts totally, and make sure that the alternator is charging appropriately. That's a common problem, but only with fault 5, for some reason. The module could perhaps be faulty. Buy used; they rarely fail. If you have to buy something, that is. It might not be necessary.

Chris-
I went back and rechecked the battery connections, double checked the reset procedure and still got a fault five. I took your advice and got the module from the salvage yard (fifty bucks- much less than I expected).I cleared the fault codes again and no more problems. Thanks for the help.

Nice going! Fifty bucks for ANY airbag component is a deal, especially since it's better to have the system working than not. I'm glad you got a good price for the module. Never saw one fail like that, but I guess it happens from time to time.
