Squeaking driver's seat 900

A relatively minor problem, but one that's starting to drive me nuts! The driver's seat in my 945t squeaks loudly whenever I shift my weight around in it or if I go over a lot of bumps. The only time it's silent is when I'm on a smooth stretch of highway - which is practically never in NYC!

The seat does seem to shift around a bit too, more so than the passenger side, which is solid as a rock.

Is there something I can tighten or lubricate inside or around the seat to stop this from happening? It's got power adjustment, if that makes any difference.

Thanks!

-Ben

Ben, there's actually a Service Bulletin out for seat noises. The bulletin indicates that the noise is usually the seat rubbing against the surrounding plastic panels, among other things. The remedy is the application of Teflon tape to the rubbing surfaces. Let me know the best way to send you a copy of the bulletin.

If the seat rather than the cushion shifts around, check under the carpet for rust and possibly corroded welding points between seat rails and floor pan. Do they still bring out the Department of Sanitation trucks and pour the salt on the streets when it snows?

They sure do salt like crazy! But it's been so warm here recently that we haven't had that in a while.

there's no rust down there, but thanks for the advice everyone - I'll check out that bulletin and see if it's that or something more mechanically related.

-Ben

Find the support spring or hinge assembly that is squeeking and grease it with a silicone or synthetic (non-staining) grease, such as Superlube. It might help to use a small vinyl tube, one end in your ear, to locate the squeek.
