Weird Tranny Problem 700

Hey all, Just yesterday ~100 miles into my trip while driving my 760ti on the highway, the overdrive kept shutting off. If I would press the pedal 1 or 2 inches to speed up, or if there was a small hill, it would kick up ~1,000 RPMS (it was coming out of overdrive). The OD light on the dash board didn't come on. It did respond when I would press the OD button on my shifter, but I don't want to take it out of OD. I had to drive over 100 miles back home today with my engine at 3,500-4,500RPMS. This is not right. It sometimes would go into overdrive if I purposely gave it less gas, but to maintain speed, it was kicking in and out of overdrive every 15 seconds or so. The kickback cable seems to be retracting fine. I can hear the relay click (quietly) when i turn the OD off with the switch, so I think that is fine. I have not brought it in to anyone yet, but I have been on the brickboard reading about the overdrive solenoid? A new tranny is out of the question for my wallet, so I'm hoping for some other possibilities. Thanks.

Weird Tranny Problem 700

So you hear the relay clicking, and the inhibitor button/light seems to be working OK, right? The dash light and the solenoid are on different circuits as from the relay. So one can work and the other not. But also if you are in o/d and something impairs the connection from the relay to the solenoid causing it to drop out, the dash light would show no change.

Your problem sounds like wiring, and the place to check is the wire connecting to the solenoid. The connector/terminal may have gotten loose (age & crud). Also, maybe the engine-tranny unit is moving a bit as the load changes and that wire is pulled tight - how are the motor and transmission mounts?

Good Luck,

Bob
