The unpredictable cam in the automatic! 200 1991

I put the K cam in the '91 245SE /AW70 today and so far it is very sweet. Notoiceably more power off the line and all the way up. It could be just what you need for that extra little something in a newer 240. I had gone back and forth in my head - VX3, K, VX3, K then thinking the VX3 was going in the 242Ti, I went ahead and threw the K in the 245. While no one on the lists had experience with that combo, I am here to say it is great so far.

I would be interested in knowing your gas mileage with the K cam. Would installing 3.31(vs the shorter 3.73) rear gear ratios defeat the purpose of the cam?

Anything giving more performance will be used and to the detriment of gas mileage. I think the rear end swap might hurt the gain from the cam.

Yes, this is true,I would still be interested in accertaining your MPG figures, if that's something you check. Thanks, roll on.

Isn't the "K" the stock grind in a B-23E?
If so, I can report that it made excessive HC at idle for California smog.
The VX is much cleaner.

Thought I would drop a line and let you know that I have been using the K cam in a 1987 b230f w/ an automatic for a couple of years and agree with your observations except that in my case the idle is a bit uneven in neutral- otherwise it is great. Very good throttle response and it loves to rev. My fuel mileage is quite good, although the overdrive really helps. We have emissions testing up here in Vancouver,B.C.which is quite stringent and the wagon passes easily. I replaced the original rear end (3.31) with a (3.91) and it makes a noticeable difference. The K cam was designed to work more efficiently at higher rpm. I drove it for a summer with the 3.31's and since it is hilly out here (to put it mildly) it was a dog. Sometimes second gear felt like drive. If you live where it is flat it would make a great freeway cruiser. By the way my Volvo is a 1981 265 gle.

Brent-
Thanks a bunch. If I had your post last week it would have inspired me to go for it with confidence. As it is, I took the chance and I too am pleased.
The isdle is a bit more interesting but nothing objectionable.

Yes, the B23E and yes, one does flirt with high HC but there is a B23 in San Diego with a K (rather was, now sold) that passed emissions with the K. No testing done in Florida anymore.
