'82 Volvo 240 GL Stereo/Radio question 200

I'm going to attempt to install a CD player in my mom's '82 Volvo. It has a Sony deck that they had installed soon after they bought it new (in '83). I pulled the deck out to look at the wiring and there are some odd looking connections I've never seen before in an install (I've done a few before) for the speakers. They're round with 8 or 9 or so pins inside. Do I need to buy an install kit to fit the new CD player wires to these plugs? Are these plugs factory or do they sound like something that was put in when the Sony deck was installed? If it helps any, I'm putting in a JVC CD deck. Any help would be appreciated.

try this url for a good wiring guide.

if you bought the cd deck new (in the box) it should come with it's own wires & guide, just snip off the volvo connector & match up the wires. i've installed a couple cheap sony cd-decks now without any trouble. a nice part is that their wiring harness unplugs from the back of the deck making for an easy wiring job.

I haven't had to deal with this round connector setup, but if it's factory, theres a good chance you can go to circuit city, best buy, or sound advice and pick up the proper adapter harness for it. Otherwise, just cut it off and test every wire individually for +, -, switched +, and all the speakers. Shouldn't be very difficult.
