Our 244 did not originally have a right hand mirror. Purchase one through e-bay and was wondering about obtaining new sail pieces with holes or if not available, what size holes would have to be drilled in existing pieces (Also, how to remove/replace).

The "new" mirror should have the two sail pieces. Then it's a matter of removing the old ones, and putting the new one in. The metal on the door that is between the sail pieces has the hole all ready there. Very easy job.

Did you search a salvage yard?

On your car, pop off the plastic trim piece and remove the one bolt/screw that holds the metal outside trim piece on. Do you have the mirror yet? If it's the usual pre-'86 style with the adjustment handle on the inside, it should include at least the mirror, outside trim piece, inside trim piece, inside handle, and a screw. The screw goes through the handle and trim on the inside and screws into the mirror on the outside, holding it to the door. It's simple to install. Once you get the mirror on and adjusted to where you want it, make the screw really tight because the mirror will move at high speeds because of the wind.

I don't have the mirror as yet, but the picture does not appear to have either of the trim pieces. I suppose it's a wait and see proposition. If they aren't included, is it possible to get the trim pieces only from a source like volvoworld.com?

Try the places listed under Used Parts on my links page. I bet one of them can get you the trim for a couple dollars.
