Will 240 M46 4 speed with OD fit the 740Turbo with M46 4 speed with OD? 700

I need a transmission for my 85 740Turbo and saw one in a 86 240 that was an M46 4 speed with eletronic OD. Will the 240 fit the 740T. Any suggestions and problems would be greatly appreciated.

If you plan on keeping the car for years yet and want a better troublefree OD unit, you'ld be better off finding a used trans from a '87 on up 740T as it has the "beefier" P type OD (the best OD unit used) compared to older J type OD which was more problematic. The newer complete trans (not separate OD unit) will bolt in w/o any modifications. Try a WTB post in the classifieds here.

Yes, it fits. The shift linkage and probably the drive flange will need to be changed. The bell housing might be different for the 240 cable clutch but htis can be changed, too. This exact information is in the 700/900 FAQ
