name that gasket! 700 1989

I'm in the process of replacing front oil seals, and I removed the plate that the front crank seal and intermediate seal fits into. What's this plate called, and what's the gasket that I need to order so that I can put this plate back on? I'm trying to pick the right gasket to order on volvocarparts.com

Thanks!

Matt
I ordered mine from FCPGroton before I started. It is called the timing cover gasket. Its very easy to install but be sure to get the mating surfaces very clean. My old gasket was totally destroyed in the process of removing it and I spent a good deal of time prepping my mating surfaces before installing the new gasket. Be careful of the timing cover, it is aluminum and soft.

Also, did your timing cover have oil buildup on the inside of it? Mine had a nice brown coating on it and I cleaned this up as best I could before reinstalling.

Good luck

Thanks, I ordered the gasket this morning from fcpgroton.

I just bought this car the other day, and it leaking oil like you wouldn't believe. The entire timing cover was caked in oil, as was the water pump, valve cover, timing belt, everything! The bottom seal was partly pushed out and the only thing that kept it from falling on the ground was the back of the timing belt pulley/gear. The other 2 seals were also leaking badly, but were still in place. The PO drove it around for about a month like this, adding a quart of oil each time he filled the gas tank, or as needed.

Anyway, I spent more than an hour cleaning the gasket off the front of the block. As for the cover, I just soaked it in mineral spirits overnight which makes the gasket pieces soft and really easy to remove. It dissolved all the other crud too, and now it looks like new.

Now that I have this mess all cleaned up, it will be time to start putting things back together once I get my parts.

I have always called this gasket a "timing cover gasket".
