If you can turn the crank and the sunroof doesn't move it is eitehr a shot/stripped sunroof gear crank, shot/stripped handle connection, or the line has snapped.

I've never seen a snapped line, so I favor teh gear itself. You'll need to unscrew the handle and cover plate and look at all teh components in teh housing to see whats wrong. Any metal shavings? Look at the threads on teh gear side and the roof side, are they stripped?

Fising teh sunroof isn't nearly as hard as everyone thinks... just time consuming. Its also esier if you take teh sunroof cover off (the roof itself). To do this, vent the sunroof, unlatch teh springs/hooks that hold teh interior headliner flap to the sunroof, and lay it flat. Unscrew the two or four golden bolts on either side of the sunroof that hold it in. Lean the sunroof up a little bit, and unscrew the 4 other golden screws that hold teh front of the roof on. It should just pop off after this.

Pay attention to how things are laid out since you will have to put it back afterwards. I'd offer more info, but this is one of those jobs you really have to see to do.

good luck,
rick

its easier to replace the whole thing. Get it at a wrecking yard. Its not a difficult job.

The Haynes manual has marginal information that I used to replace a broken cable but is still a real pain to adjust. If you're mechanically inclined and have alot of patience it's doable. Go to a salvage yard for parts as Volvo is reported to be pricey.
