They don't really support 444/544's like they claim, but thats beside the point.
Look carefully ot the picture on the cover. All of the cars are fine except for the 544! It has some very strange things going on with it! The front tire appears to show through part of the front fender in a ghost-like manner. And while many PV's often appear to have uneven side chrome - the bizarre things happening with the chrome on the visible door defy logic!!!
Heheheh!

Jim .. I live in Nova Scotia .. when I heard that the Vintage Catalogue was available, I gave IPD a call and less than a week later it was in my mail box ... so it can't be the International mail cost ....

Hi All,
At least you guys get the catalog.
I live in Victoria B.C.just a few hour from Portland, closer than most likely the majority of you.
Over the years I spent hundereds of dollars on parts from IPeeDee for my 544s and 62 P1800(sway bars,Bilsteins)only now I guess I'm and international customer (ever though I was under the impression British Columbia was a colony of the US.) and have to pay for the catalog.
It use to be easy, just phone in an order before one of my frequent trips to CA and pick them up.
A close friend of mine owns a Volvo service center with a customer base of over 1500,some owning more than one Volvo.
He also use to order parts but hasn't since not receiving the catalog.
Just the other day I mentioned I was going to try and order the poly steering coupler for the 122s and he said to get him four of the things. I couldn't find them on the web site and haven't got around the calling.
I guess I wonder if the postage is really that big an issue.
Lowering springs for a 544? I'd order a set over my morning coffee if I only knew;-)

I was disappointed by the lack of parts. If I had a B18 I might be happier. The only thing that even really tempted me were the stainless steel beauty rings. I'll have to go back and check out that cover.

You have got to be kidding. Call ipd at (800)444-6473 and ask for the non-vintage RWD catalog. How you even received the catalog is baffling. By the way, if you had a B18, you might be happier with the catalog, but not your car...

JohnMc,
If you have thoughts on how we might better support the PV series, I'd be very interested in talking to you further. We'd like to expand on the product line across the board but it's really hard to know what customers are interested in... kind of a continual trial and error process.
I can provide lowering coils, sway bar kits, polyurethane bushings, performance shocks, brake parts, engine parts, body seals/gaskets and more... same stuff we offer for the other pushrod models... but if I can't sell it, then why keep it in stock?
There are several more errors: steering coupler photo omits the 1800. Fuel filters are mislabeled. There's a mention of a B21FT in the driveline section, and an incorrect part number on the same page. And more that we haven't found yet.
Sorry that the catalog has resulted in disappointment. Thought that by now, someone might have had something positive to say about it. Lotta folks thought it was a big mistake. I hope they're wrong but I'm starting to think maybe they're right.
I don't know what's up with the picture on the cover.
Best,
Cameron

JohnMc and others,
In reading my last post, I immediately realize how that must have come across. Nuts! I didn't mean to sound so gloomy about the catalog. Thanks all for the kind words.
If anyone's interested; I apologize for letting other frustration taint my perspective on this. We chased down leads for lots of things that we couldn't get into our hands for evaluation or testing. Various parts that were fairly readily available when we started were no longer so when we finished. I don't speak for Shayne, but I think we both hoped to squeeze more _cool_ stuff in and were disappointed with some of the things that were abandoned (if only for now).
The bottom line is this: I'd like to thank everyone who drives one of these cars. I'm glad to know they're still on the road. Without you, I'd be out of a job. Thanks for keeping the faith.
Best regards,
Cameron

Congratulations on the vintage catalog. It is sure nice that I don't have to wade jelously through all of the trick stuff for the newer cars. Now I just have to jelously ignore all of the extra stuff for P1800s.
Some feedback:
I bet you guys could sell a ton of retractable 122 and 544 seat belts, I know I would buy a pair if I didn't have to worry about fit. I bet there are hundreds of daily drivers out there screaming for a set. I wistfully think about a set every time I get in and out of my car.
I see you have the polyeurthane steering couplers in there now, took me forever to find them on my own and they made a world of difference. I also noticed that in the rubber section you have a picture of a 122 tail light seal, but the part isn't listed.
Sometimes on this board I read of a part or kit available from IPD for old volvos that isn't in the catalog. The last time I remember it was a brake master adapter kit, and before that the 544 swaybars. I know you might not have many of these random things in stock, but it sure would be usefull to know what goodies you guys do have, at least for inspiration.
Oh ya, just for larfs, it would be great to have body seals, springs, shocks, and swaybars for the P210. There are even less parts for them than the 544, but not much of a market I am afraid.
Thanks for keeping IPD real.

>Duh! Why didn't I think of that? I'm screaming for a set...or two. I checked out JC Whitney's catalog and the example photo looks real good-kinda spendy. I know, I know, how does one put a price on safety? Mario, this is an excellent idea. I'm gonna look into it.(Actually, I will sic our purchasing agent on it and take all the glory).

>Doh. That number drops out of print pretty regularly for some reason-computer err0r#@?

>That was our primary goal with this; to find every last dusty bit and list it.
See above for details.
I did the dual-line brake master cylinder conversion to my '66 122 sedan and it is sweet. You need some extra bits to pull it off on a pre '68 car-something to stop the rearward pedal travel, a couple of the female-to male adaptors, and an extra length of(ipd pre'65 front stainless braided)brake line.
Oh ya, just for larfs, it would be great to have body seals, springs, shocks, and swaybars for the P210.
>www.roundfender.org for the seals. Uh...
...not much of a market I am afraid.
>yeah.
Thanks for keeping IPD real.
Thanks for the nice note.

I didn't mean to slander or criticize IPD - mostly just to point out the funny stuff happening with the 544 on the cover. Just some mild Photoshopping to make the group picture fit better resulting in a droopy hooded PV?
I'm glad to see the 444/544 sways listed again - I've got a set on my PV and recommend them to all. But other than that and some stock front PV shocks there isn't much there for a PV owner other than parts that also fit 120 and on series as well. Not that I fault you for that - I'm sure there is very little demand for PV specific parts and even less for performance PV bits. And there are those Swedish companies that do such a great job of covering that end of the market as is.
However - a couple of items you might include for the next catalog (and would no doubt sell pretty well)
1) PV Bilsteins - these are as rare as hen's teeth but I got a set from one of those Swedish companies - I don't know if Bilstein is still making them or they just have a secret hoard of them left.
2) Minilites and/or other wheels - there is a lot of confusion about what doesn't fit/fits/works well on old Volvo's. Perhaps if you had some that fit right they'd sell. Although I guess IPD used to sell wheels so you might know why that didn't work before.

Hi JohnMc,
Bilstein still makes shocks for the PV series cars but refuses to import them to the US. I spoke with reps both in their SoCal location and in CT. They were not interested. If you have a set already, though, the US locations can test and rebuild them if needed.
We don't have stock shocks for the PV. Volvo carries them and we can't begin to compete on price. We brought Konis in about a year ago, thinking that this user-adjustable performance oriented shock might provide a viable alternative to privately importing Bilsteins. My bad - Konis don't sell.
Foreign Autotech sells a Minilight type wheel. 215-441-4421. I'd like a set myself, but just bought a 145 and a 544 (both driveable) for the price of 4 such wheels.
You're right - ipd used to sell wheels and it didn't work out.
Thanks for the note.

Cameron ..WHOA HOLD YER HORSES ..... I and any of the East Coast Vintage Volvo Club who have received our Vintage Catalogues LOVE IT !!!!! GEEZ Guy .. don't be so Sensitive !! Such a pleasure to be able to thumb through a catalogue and not have to wade through all that "Johnny-come-lately" stuff .... Like George says "Real Volvos DON'T have struts, AMMs, Computers, Overhead Cams, power steering, power windows or power door locks".
Old Volvos never die ..... they just become COOL !!!

Cameron;
I totally agree with Brett...I was pretty happy to get my copy of the catalog full of all sorts of things STILL available...so I didn't get stuck on the cover photowork...the ay I see it, IPD may not have everything, but is none-the-less remains a great resource to all of us vintage Volvo owners...so I sure as hell am not going to be uttering ANY words of discouragement!!!...where would we be without IPD?...probably paying a whole lot of shipping for parts from Europe, that's where!
I'm sure IPD makes a lot of money on steering racks and cupholder upgrades and such (probably a lot bigger percentage of their business than the vintage stuff)and so really doesn't need to be sitting on racing shocks for a 40 year old car...they are a business after all.
...so nothing but words of thanks and encouragement from me, IPD guys!
Cheers
