Hey All,
My 240's hood won't open. I think when I closed it last, it got misaligned because I can see that the drivers side of it isn't flush. I'm about to hit the road, so this is presenting a problem. If anyone has had any experience with this, I would appreciate your help. I tried making a hook to get it open, but it seems like the locking pin is jammed or something.

A few things:

1) if the hood isn't flush, it could mean that you have a bent link in the hood hinge linkage. solution? junk yard!! i found out that this was caused by the hinges not being lubed enough. now that i replaced the one and lubed both, the difference in force needed to raise/lower the hood is like night and day!!

2) if something is wrong with your hood release, here's how to open it. (i do this every time since my release is shot) get down on the groud layng perpendiclar to your car under the front bumper. going from the spoiler to the base of the radiator will be a piece of black plastic (maybe not, your's may have fallen off. it's common. if you don't have it, skip this part)). now, you can do this the brute force dangrous way, or the smart way. (i've never use the smart way) the brute force way is to bend the front chin spoiler and black plastic piece to seperate them from each other. the smart way is to remoe the black piece by unscrewing the three or four bolts that hold it on near the radiator base. whichever you choose, after you can see up between the grille and the radiator, crawl under so you can reach to the top of the rad with your hand. find the hood release cable (coiled metal with wire coming out) and the latch it attaches to. pull that latch hard, and the hood should release. i say "should" because i don't know if there are other reasons why it won't open.

You can lay down under the front of the car and access the hood latch from
underneath. You can use a long screwdriver and hammer on the end to push
the latch up through. You may want to do this with someone pulling the release
handle. Or a long metal rod of some type to pop the latch to hammer on the end to pop the latch.

Mike, Is the hood really misaligned that much ? If it is then the bolts from the hinge's are loose. A few time mine has stuck momentarily ..I PUSH down at the front and pull the hood release again or have someone help it might be easier to open with two. Good luck.
