My 760 Turbo recently started to lose power and eventually would idle at 400 RPM, and wouldn't run at all when in drive. I assumed it was a clogged fuel filter. I removed the filter, and it wasn't clogged.

My questions are...

How in the world do I get the fittings off the old filter. With all my might I managed to get 1 fitting to turn, but it didn't loosen up.

How do I check the fuel pump(s). I figure that has to be my problem. Thanks

You need an impact wrench/air gun to remove those brackets. Many brick specialists use the gun to put them on, and overtighten them in the process. BTW, that plastic hose between the filter/pump is use once, so watch it if you didn't replace it.

The problem is most likely your fpregulator or fprelay, not the pumps themselves. Pull the vacuum hose off the front of teh fuel pressure regulator at the rail and look/smell for a gas leak. If you smell or see gas replace it... a malfunctioining fpreg will up the fuel presure at teh rail as high as 100psi.

Pull the fprelay and resolder or replace it. I favor the latter since the part is only $26 or so online and is such an integral part. You can get good deals on this stuff at http://www.importeccatalog.com. shipping's free over $50.
