Air conditioning? 200

Just how good is the A/c in an 81 240 supposed to work? Mine puts out air slightly cooler than the outside air.

Air conditioning? 200 1981

I have an '81 Gl w/B21F. I just had the A/C vacuumed and recharged with Freeze 12. I also had the drier replaced. It seems to work OK, it hasn't gotten real hot yet, but on an 80 degree day its comfortable inside, and my windows aren't tinted. I'm thinking about adding and extra electric fan in front of the condenser and tinting the windows. This will increase efficiency and maybe get it even colder. But, no, it doesn't get frosty. Also use R12 or Freeze 12 instead of 134A, 134 is less efficient and doesn't cool as well.

Air conditioning? 200 1981

Hello .. I replaced my 1983 system with compressor, high side line, expansion valve with a new one and a dryer and recharged it myself. The temp. was rather cool not cold. So I removed the freon unhooked the expansion valve and turned the internal adjuster 1 1/2 turns in and now its really kick ass cold. 41-43 degrees on 90+ Florida days. After buying the car new and replacing compressors every 8-9 years and never being truely satisfied with its cooling ability I discussed my problem with an old refrigeration expert. He stated that at one time all expansion valves had external adjusters but the laws changed when people started adjusting w/o proper knowledge. Now all expansion valves come pre adjusted for liability sake. He also taught me how to remove all freon without a vaccuum pump.

I wouldn't expect chilly, but the ac in my '84 keeps it comfortable
