89 740GL won't start 700 1989

Sons vehicle not "driven" since Jan. except to move to clear driveway. When last started in 3rd week of March door was left ajar and battery drained. Charged batt. and veh started right up. Ran for 1-2 min. then stalled. Charger back on and restarted, ran for few seconds. Fully charged battery and tried restarting to no avail. Getting spark as engine fires when gas introduced through sparkplug holes and also when starting fluid introduced through air duct. Main fuel pump runs when fuel pump relay terminals are jumped (key off) and fuel is delivered to fuel rail (pulled fuel return line to determine this). Main fuel pump does not deliver fuel to front with fuel pump relay in place (key on or off) Replaced fuel pump relay assuming problem there with no change. Engine wants to run but does not seem to be getting fuel. (no gas smell at exhaust on cranking)Injectors must have been working properly when it first started until residual fuel was used. Any help would be much appreciated

if you're just jumpering 2 pins on the fuel relay connector, you're providing no impulse.

assume the following is your connector as seen looking from the driver's seat.

you need to jumper (chain connect) all the X's together to provide pump function plus impulse.

It was bad a connection at radio supression relay (or so it seems). Anyway, it's running now. Thanks for the help.

jumpered as per diagram - still no start - heard pump run but no gas odor after lengthy cranking - next thoughts?

The Radio Suppression Relay supplies electricity to the injectors. The injectors are operated by the ECU, which grounds them simultaneously. Check the Radio Suppression Relay. The injectors should have 12 volts when cranking the engine. If the injectors are not being grounded be the ECU, suspect a bad ECU. The first year (1989)of LH 2.4 Jetronic suffers from ECU failures. The ECU problem was cured about 1991 or 1992.
