Is There An Easy Way To Replace 940 Radio With Aftermarket CD Player? 900 1994

I replaced the factory cassette unit with a Kenwood and added a CD changer in my 89 745T, but it took some work to figure out the wiring. I have a less electrically inclined friend with a 940 who wants to replace the factory radio with an aftermarket CD player. Is there a wiring harness adapter available? The factory radio is dead, so a universal multidisc CD changer is not an option at present.

Thanks,

Philip Bradley

if your friend is less electrically inclined but not financially impared
why not just find a high end stereo shop and work a deal for a new indash
cd player/radio installed by them ? i did that a week ago on an eclipse
in dash unit for around $320.00 installed. they bypassed the amp, did decent
install and i have 3 year parts and labor on any failure. dont get me wrong
here, i do everything myself. but the last time i did a radio install i vowed
no more on that. the volvo isnt as simple as some. I did a GM / Pioneer in dash
2 years ago and it took 15 min, jumper harness fit OEM on 1 end - pioneer other
end. I have seen no such harness for volvo.

Philip, www.crutchfield.com. They send you foolproof instructions. It takes a little mental connecting to see how each wire corresponds, but its cake. They send you all you'll need, and have an excellent staff that can guide you through the installation on the phone. They provide everything: mounting kit, harnesses and instructions. They also bypass the worthless Volvo amp as well.

I just replaced the radio in my 94 945T. I went to 5 car audio shops and no one carried the correct harness, they all said the same thing, "oh, it's amplified, no one makes harnesses for amplified systems" yet I got one for my 240 wich was amplified. I got sick of driving places so I just cut the factory wiring and put it in without a harness kit. If you are in the same situation as I am then I wrote down all of the wire colors and their functions that you will need.

best of luck, Andrew Woods

I did the splice with wire nuts system when I installed a Blaupunkt system and new speakers on another car. Had to identify and trace and label all the available wires. I am looking for an excuse to put a new stereo in my 95-945. It would be a great if you could post the color codes. This same issue comes up on the Brickboard once or twice a month. Thanks. btw, nice photos of the bricks.

I have used Crutchfield's for my redo's. They have harnesses to hook into existing systems and good instructions. Might log on to crutchfield.com

There is a shop here in Houston called River Oaks Car Stereo. They have the harnesses on their website. www.installer.com. Pick up my 89 740 tomorrow. My first and not last Volvo.
