Why do I love this piece of steel? 700 1991

Underpowered, Candles for headlights, overpriced repair parts, confused at best dealer mechanics,...........and the safest damn thing I have ever been in.

Got rear-ended yesterday by a minivan. This was no little tap. I was at a red light...doing of all things, not moving. The light turned green, and the driver of the minivan decided to challenge the laws of physics by trying to place two pieces of matter in the same place simultaneously. Her excuse...I thought you were going to start moving!!!!! My cell phone ended up on the rear seat. Thought it was going through the window. My neck snapped back right into those huge headrests. The seat back absorbed the shock of my 200+ pound frame.

No damage to me or the brick. Her minivan had a torn bumper, but that's her problem.

Guess I'll be keeping this one a while!

Regards,

David

Why do I love this piece of steel? 700 1991

When I was in high school I hit a 69 Chevy Nova head-on in my 75 164E. Me and my three passengers walked away with about $800 in damage (to the car, not us). The driver of the Nova walked away with a large pile of scrap metal.

That's why when my son was born I got rid of my Toyota pick-up and bought my 740.

God bless those bricks!

You should go and talk to the guy in the FWD forum, who is deathly afraid to drive anything that's been hit by anything larger than a shopping cart! Because oh my god, it has been DAMAGED.

To each his/her own.

Check the rear bumber shock absorbers and the engine / trany mounts. These take the impact.

I saw an 'real' rear ended 740 sedan in a bone yard, the trunk gets crumpled to 'a foot' leaving the rear and front seats intact.
