dismal fuel pressure??? 200 1986

Well, my friend fanagled a test port for the fuel rail and bad news.

30 psi when idling. And when plugging hose that hits the fuel pressure valve, it only jumps to 40 psi.

What are the correct numbers of a healthy fuel pump

BTW, the in-tank pump WAS working, and working well.

I believe this is a 2.2 jetronic??

Thanks for any help.

Luke

Luke,

My Bentley's manual is not nearby, so I can't check the fuel pressure spec for you right now.

Before you drop anything more for another part in a hide and seek manner, consider making the Bently manual your next purchase.

It is very good and contains an escellent diagnostic procedure for fuel system troubleshooting.

Troubleshooting does require a pressure guage, but I have found you can still get someplace without one.

Simply act according to a procedure
AS IF the fuel presure test failed to live up to specs. Then adjust or replace that part.

If it corrects things, then you found and solved the problem. If not, merely go on to the next diagnostic procedure.

It still may involve buying some part(s), but you will at least avoid guessing and replacing parts which have no bearing.

Hi there,

I have the Bentley manual, but it was at home (i was working on my car at a friend's house)

Now i'm at work. and I forgot to check.

For some reason, I think spec is 43 psi???

but I'm not sure.

30 psi at idle is very good. I know for a fact that my engine will run fine with ONLY 28 psi
