Repainting hood- any advice

I'm repainting the hood on my '86 745 turbo. The old clear coat failed.
I've already sanded it down to the original primer.
My next step will be to seal it with sealer, then paint it with a one step polyurethane.

Any advice or hints?

Bob

Brush or spray? In all honesty, check out marine sites. Paint designed to withstand the worst conditions. They do have 1 step brush on polys if your taking that route.

David

Had a similar problem with an 81 VW Rabbit. Try AWL GRIP. Stuff is awsome.

Same as painting anything though, the results are directly related to the prep.

I am in no way associated with AWL GRIP. I spent most of my youth on the water and a great deal of my adult life in the Navy. All I can say is I have seen the results time after time worldwide.

Hope this helps

David

Thanks for the url. I've already bought the paint. I don't remember the brand, but it is a poly. The auto paint store guy said that he is getting great reviews about it. It blends perfectly on spot jobs too. It requires a lot less work than the paint-then-clearcoat process.

Catalyzed polyurethane.

If your auto body paint guy didn't give it to you shame on him.

Catalyzed polyurethane.

It must be catalyzed because I have to mix it with an agent (proabably a catalyzation agent), and after it is mixed, it only lasts for a couple of hours.
