a/c switch conversion 200

Hello all!

Has anyone changed out the variable a/c switch to a simple on/off one. I have an 84 240 dl and discovered that the presure line going to the switch is broken. My A/C will not work at the moment. When I jump out the switch on the center panel the compresor turns on. There is some air in the system now, but will this broken line leak all the refrigerent if the sys. is charged? I would think it would. I have searched the site and found a lot on the a/c sys. but not on the switch. TIA for all the help

joe

No, that copper line has nothing to do with refrigerant but is a "bourdon tube" sensing temperature at your expansion valve. Not sure about replacing it with another type of switch but you can replace it with one from a wreck pretty easily. The copper tube is strapped to the valve with two small radiator clamps.
