Steering Racks Swappable? 200 1983

volvoGurus:
My son has an 83 245 that I gave him for college use. It has toasted inner tie rods (jacked up the front wheel, 10mm play just by using my hands, lots of clunking).
Here at home, I have an 83 240 steering rack (with the large openings in the boots=ZF?) AND an 86 240 with the small openings in the boots= CAM? ) My question:
can I use either if I use the entire rack from steering column to outer tie rods?
Will the hoses from the power steering pump attach OK to either one at the rack end of the hose?
Or should I just buy the inner tie rods (expensive) and redo the rack on the car?
Gracias,
el Raidman.

Yes, either rack will bolt up, including the hoses. The outer tie rod ends are the same on both models. The inner tie rods are not expensive from FCP Groton.(FCPGroton.com)
You can have them in about 3 days.

Use any rack you wish. Remember to transfer the spacer block under the right side attachment point U bolt to the cross member of the rack you are installing. Each manufacturers rack uses a different shape and size standoff.

Spin the power steering pump by reversed drill to work the air bubbles out as you crank the wheel from lock to lock. Works the pump weakly and will not blow seals if an air bubble gets into the system.

Thanks, Duane:
How does one attach a drill to the Power steering pump? At least I know how to run it in reverse. Will my battery powered (12 V DeWalt) drill be strong enough?
Gracias,
el Raidman.
