MY BABY IS GONE 200 1984

After 18 years to the day and 180,000 miles, my 84 GL Diesel Brick is gone ... well, sorta.

Today I sold her to my best friend for his son ( a rising college junior) to use during his summer internship with the New England Patriots. Still, when I look out to the driveway and don't see her, it is like a family member has moved away.

Incidentally, she was still on the original clutch and starter, and the block has never been opened, and she still gets 30+/- mpg on the open road in OD.

Well, she really did have to go. After all, there are the 88 DL wagon and the 98 V70 (Base) and the 98 V70 T5 and, oh yes, the 67 MGB Roadster in the garage. Now I will be the first one to admit that a man can't own too many Volvos, but, with only two drivers and state, local and insurance costs getting out of hand, I just had to let one go. At least she went to a good home with people who will love her and let me visit her often.

In time, the hurt will ease, and life will go on ..........

Dave, I used to live over on W47th St. ODU.

BTW, lets see if we'll go for the 'tax me more' fund proposed by Gov Warner.

Hi Warren,
I didn't specify Norfolk; how did you know? I know W. 47th well as I live on E. 40th in Riverview; Masters (Engineering Management) at ODU in '88; buy my gas at the Shell at Hampton Blvd and 49th across from the Dunkin' Donuts. Is it all coming back to you?
BTW, I share your thoughts about the Gov, but we should take any political discussions off-forum.
Nostalgically,

Well, you signed 'Dave in Virginia', so I looked at your profile. I did a Mapquest on your zip code. Viola, Norfolk! I thought you might be closed.

I think Dunkin' Donuts was after my time, 1975.

Good luck on the Masters Deg.

Jorn, no need to apologize; I deserved it. I would have done the same thing. Groucho Marx would be proud of us both.

If it makes you feel better, when I sold my 69 firebird to get my S60, I started to cry when it left, it was sad as hell.

but then I drove off in my awsome s60 and I started to feel better!

I know what you are saying. Just at that moment when my 98 V70 T5M crosses over to boost and the front end rises up just a bit and I feel myself pushed back in the seat ... at that moment I can begin to let go of my diesel which would be passed by the 18-wheelers going uphill.

69 Firebird, huh? My first car out of college was a 69 Pontiac Le Mans, 2-door blue with white interior, 350 c.i. HO engine cranking 330 hp thru a 3-speed Hurst shifter. No power steering, no power brakes, no A/C .. all the horses went to the wheels. Man, that car would fly. Traded it in for my first Brick (1974 242).

Strange .... I can hear Barbra Streisand singing, "Memories ... like the corners of your mind ...."
