OEM Trailer Hitch 200 1987

Hi Boarders - finally got around to the rainy day project of installing an OEM trailer hitch on Ol' Blue. Have all the parts, including the wiring adapter and have sent the hitch out to be sand blasted and powdercoated. While I'm waiting for it to come back I was wondering if anyone had a copy of the Volvo instruction sheets with the wire routing (routing - not schematic - I have that), template for where to cut the rear lower trim, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
RP

RP,

I think I have the instructions for the wiring harness in the garage, or in one of the cars--I'll check and let you know. Please reply with a FAX number (or mailing address) and I'll send you a copy.

FWIW, I've installed two of these and they definitely help avoid the dreaded "bulb out" indication.

Talk with you later,

Hi Steve - appreciate any help you can provide. The wiring adapter came with the install instructions (which I have) but what I'm looking for is where do you run the wires from underneath the car (245) into the interior (i.e. spare tire well?). Is there an existing hole? Also, big concern is the "where/how much to cut off the rear fascia for the recepticle to fit through. If you can dig up anything my fax # at work is 301.757.7658.

Thanks for any and all help.

Randy

The only thing I recall seeing on the BB Re: trailer hitch cut-in was that it is possible to cut the hole where the hitch itself sticks through to be an oval hole rather than cutting a big slot.

I have an after-market hitch on my 1988 244GL and (1) the back lower plastic flap thing is cut to look crappy, and (2) with a trailer attached, the BFWS amber light is if if teh brakes are engaged and/or the headlights are on.

Better luck to you!

Bob

Hi Bob - thanks for the "heads-up" on the cut-out for the rear fascia, didn't even dawn on me to do it the way you suggested. My Pop always used to say "measure twice, cut once".

Hopefully by having the Volvo wiring adapter I won't have the false "bulb failure" warning lamp illuminated.

Once again, the Brickboard, and posters like yourself, have saved a rookie from doing it the hard way....

Thanks,
RP
