I seem to remember reading somewhere that 1 wire alternators should not be installed in these cars because it takes a ppretty high RPM to trigger them and get current flowing. Better to install a three wire alternator with external voltage regulator. Do I remember correctly or do I have the whole story backwards.?????

I put a 110 amp "1-wire" Delco unit in my 122. I narrowed the mounting ear on the alt to line up right. It's actually chrome, which is really effective at allowing you to see your face twist up in pain when you accidently touch the pole on the back. There are instructions on how to wire it up at vclassics.com, in the archives.

how did you narrow the mounting ear? with a grinder or something. I also have heard people say to stay away from the all chrome ones, any troubles with yours?

I would have used a grinder had I owned one at the time. Instead I used a hacksaw, metal file, and a square to be sure the mounting surface was straight. I've not had problems with the chrome. Do "they" give a reason to stay away?

i think they said something about how it was an interdimensional portal to a hell so evil that we couldnt even begin to imagine how horrid it is.
          other than that
          no.
Did you notice an improvment in lights or anything like that with the new alternator?
          Thanks.

Well, I put it on as part of the resurection of the 122, so never tried a "before" to compare with the "after" of now. But the amp light never glows with the heater fan on high and lights and electric engine cooling fan on. No radio, but the motivation for the high output alt was the CD player I hope to someday get around to buying and installing.

If you get one, let me know when you're installing it and I'll send you pics of mine. the mounting ear was one thing, and there are really 3 wires to hook up on a 1 wire alt.

I'll email them to you once I get them taken this weekend. You can host them if you want. I don't have anywhere to do so, other than free picture hosting sites, which annoy me but are free, so whatever.

yeah i am looking to build up the volvo part of my site, just with various mods and stuff. as you can see if you looked at it there was a picture of an old 140 with a grant wheel installed that used the old steering wheel cut apart to make the proper mounting for it. So it will just be a photo gallery of mods and other junk. but yeah, i pay for my hosting so i have plenty of space and no ads. just let me know
                  thanks
