Best place for a new clutch in Halifax is Altrom, but they don't sell to the public, you have to go through a shop. I use Import Auto. They will just sell parts if you don't want them to put one on. Prices are pretty good. I paid 290 Canadian for an intercooled turbo clutch from them, I imagine a regular clutch would be around 200 bucks. I have investigated fcp.groton on the internet but by the time you convert the dollar and pay shipping, Altrom is usually way cheaper.

If you're planning on doing this yourself, it's a pretty large undertaking.. but all the common parts houses would have what you're looking for (FCP Groton, Gapa, IPD, etc). As others suggested the OE (Sachs) kits are probably the best bet.

If you're planning on having a garage do this, check to see what they plan to use first...

When I lived in Calgary, I just got my parts from the local Volvo dlr - yeah it wasn't cheap, but the stuff was always 100% OE, top quality, and if there were any problems they took care of it without question. So that's one option. Alternatives are the advertisers on the banner at the top of this Board. I just got my '83 clutch replaced at a local shop that specializes in Volvos (I now live in semi-rural California), and the guy said not to mess with the cheaper (by $25) kits, but get the "Volvo" (Sachs) kit. The labour to do this job is big-time, and you want it to last. I paid $500 for parts and labour, including replacing the rear main bearing oil seal, resurfacing the flywheel, and a minor adjustment to the engine idle. All done in one day and it works perfectly, light pedal and smooth - no more chatter.
