Autostart 900

I have been working for Autostart fo many years. We are the leader in Canada as far as car starter, security and keyless entry system. Of course, I would recommand AUTOSTART. Comparing to the other brands I know, work with and seen, the Autostart transmitters are nice, tough and high quality, they have amazing range and the units just keep on working and gives you lots of choices of features. Prices are much lower compare to DEI with equivalent quality. You have other brands like AutoCommand, Bulldog and so on that are cheaper, but it worth paying that little extra for good quality.
Check out the AS-6105SH car starter/alarm combo

For your door locks, you will need an actuator in the driver's door. Tapping into the switch wires will lock or unlock all doors but not the driver's.
You will also need a reverse polarity relays setup (two relays and 1 fuse+holder)
e-mail me, I will send you the relay diagram.

I have created a free entry for you fellow brick people but it should be active as for Monday and will last 2 weeks or so
download whatever you need

Go on www.Autostart.ca
go to the support section and use :
" volvo " as username
" brick " as password
Autosoft will give you wiring colors for car starter install and all sorts of relay diagrams

Alarms and Keyless systems are one thing to install. The car starter part takes more cautions and knowledge as you will play around with high current and engine ignition control. Always solder well all connections and use good electrical tape.

Volvo original is of course nicest, also rather expensive... Aftermarket, you pay your money and you take your chances. Having said this, I just got something from Pep Boys waiting for me to get around to installing it (keyless entry/starter, I don't see much use to alarms. No-one actually responds to them anyway). You can do a lot cheaper at the mail orders, but it was the last day I was stateside and didn't want to wait for the mail or pay for shipping (and import duty) to europe.
Not recommending them, they were the first one that had them on the shelf. Good enough for me in the circumstances.

Remember that if you now have to use the key you will need to add a solenoid to the driver door. See the 700/900 FAQ for suggestions.

Would i really need a solinoid? Isnt there already a switch in the driver's door? my understanding is was that when i opened a locked driver's door with the handle from the inside, all the locks open on the car. Couldnt i connect to that switch to lock it? I know i have to look in the door, but just thought that might be the perfect thing to do....Time to play with the multimeter to see what does what in there.

Yes, there's a switch but no solenoid. The packaging (modulo being mirrored) is identical between left and right doors, but the left door only contains a switch, and the right door only contains a solenoid (at least in the LHD version - swapped for countries that drive on the left). When you turn the key in the driver door you manually open that lock and trigger the switch to activate the other doors. Hooking up the kit in parallel would result in all doors but the drivers door opening. The Volvo kit includes a solenoid/switch replacement unit for the drivers door, and of course the receiver/relay and transmitters. With aftermarket kits you'll need to add a solenoid yourself, the 700/900 faq has some pictures and suggestions on modifying a 700 one. I consider myself lucky for having parted out a UK 940, so I now have a pax side switch and driver side solenoid, which I will combine with the driver side switch and pax side solenoid to get a car that can be opened on the key from both sides and will also work with the aformentioned aftermarket remote locking kit.

I think that is exactly how the OEM version works. When you turn the key you actuate a switch that opens all the other doors and unlocks the trunk. The keyless device is wired in parallel to the switch. When you press the button it does the same thing as turning the key. I think the wiring is really simple. Just two connections. That's my two cents.

Thats exactly what i was thinking....sounds right because of how the driver's door lock controls everything

There is no solenoid in the drivers door, just a switch.
In the OEM kit there is a replacement motor/switch assy for this door.
If you go for the OEM kit I think you will find that the car is pretty much prewired for it.
It will also light up the interior light for you when you unlock the car as a bonus!

Happy bricking
