Steering box adjustment 120-130 1968

I want to adjust the steering box on my Amazon, and it all looks straight forward (screw on top of box, right?). I remember earlier comments on this forum about not to overtighten, but how much is too much? I've adjusted it to have just a little slop in the centre position, wheels off the ground. Maybe 1" of steering wheel movement before the steering arm moves. Is this correct, or should I do something else?

Thanks

JohnH

Ideally, there should be no slop whatsoever.
On a used gearbox, it may be imposible to adjust the slop to 0 in the center (where the gears are worn) and still not be too tight at the ends.
Tighten it up to as close to 0 slop as possible, but not so much that the wheel doesn't return to center when the car's rolling; slight drag is OK.

Hello John! If you overtighten the steeringbox the car will become very tough to steer.
Just try to turn the wheel to max in both directions(at low speed), if it feels "ok" you have adjusted it correctly.
