AW 70 OD Solenoid 200 1983

I converted my 1982 24D by installing the engine/tranny from a 1983 245. The 24D has no lockout switch for OD on the shifter. I would be happy with permanent OD. Does the switch function by supplying 12V to the OD solenoid to lock OD out, or to access OD? I'm wondering if I need to supply 12V to the solenoid or disconnect it entirely in order to have OD. TIA.

Phillip

"I would be happy with permanent OD..."

Then connect the solenoid to a 12-volt source that's powered as the ignition's powered. You can find the appropriate fuse for this in your fuse panel (fuse #11, perhaps).

Completely forget the pushbutton and relay.

Thanks, Don. Sorry about the re-post--I had not yet fielded your note when I sent it.

If it is set up like the 85 and newer AW's and I think it is the switch provide a momentary 12v to the relay which into supplies 12v to the solenoid to provide overdrive. In other words 12v to solenoid= overdrive engaged.

Hm. So if it's a momentary 12V pulse there's no way to wire it for "permanent" OD? I would need a rocker switch or toggle switch with which I could provide a pulse only (as opposed to constant 12V)? I could event

No, the momentary is to the relay. The 12v from the relay to the solenoid is constant if you want to keep it in overdrive.

Could I connect the A/T OD solenoid directly to constant 12V or is there a reason it needs a relay (if I'm content with full-time OD)?

I don't know enough about auto electrics and this application in particular to feel comfortable in saying "Sure wire up a direct 12v feed to the solenoid". On the surface the issue seems to suggest that that would be possible, but I don't know. Perhaps you could repost with that question?
