Starter Problems?!?! 140-160

So I've just finished up putting my 72 142 back together and I go to start and.........NOTHING. Not even a click from the solenoid. The starter is brand new, the lead from the battery is hooked up and there are 12 volts comeing from the ignition switch when in the cranking position. The engine and starter are grounded. I tapped the solenoid (lightly with me trusty fine adjustment tool (hammer), but nothing still. I also ran a lead straight from the battery to where the ignition switch wire gets hooked up, but nothing again. What am I missing and or what should I do. Thanks for your help, hope to be on the road again soon!

Adam

Have you connected to the correct terminal on the solenoid, there's a second one for FI cars on it.

Ditto... there are 2 spade lugs on the back. You probably have the keyswitch wire on the wrong one.

Did you happen to try jumpering directly from the battery to the starter either installed or uninstalled? Even brand new could be defective.

Also as George noted, do you have an engine to battery negative cable as well as a chassis to battery cable?

You don't mention if you checked the main starter lead to see if it has full voltage, it could have corrosion under the insulation (as could your ground cables).

Sounds like you didn't hook up an effective ground from your B-.
Or maybe chassis to engine.
