Hey Guys..
I was drivin along and my brakes gave out..like striaght down! to the floor.and no return up..oh sh!t..well I down shifted and slowed down to use the E-brake..so no worries there..but I figured out what did it..stupid stupid me..I had a battery cable from my mega stereo days still hooked the battery about 5 inchs long, well the zip ties must have corroded and let it go and it ARC WELDED a HOLE in my brake line..well needless to say I need a new brake line from the ABS Box to the rear junction ..
?? any suggestion about replacing the line , tricks, helpful thoughts, condolences
are apreciated

Next question ..what in my ABS system could I have royally f-ed up w/ the jolt of 14volts is there electric parts in that ABS box just hydraulics..

thanks
Geoffrey

PS a picture of what my engine bay looks like with the battery cable still in there from my big stereo days..

With the replacement brake line, would it help to insulate this battery cable by installing a length of rubber vac or fuel hose over the new line?

If the arc didn't distort the brake line too much, you should be able to cut the line just before and just after the hole -- removing perhaps 1/2"-3/4" of brake line -- and insert a coupling. You'll need to buy the right coupling and flare nuts for that pipe, and you'll need a double-flare tool.

Well, I took out the whole line, Lucklily I was wrong, the brake line goes from the upper left hand port on the ABS MC (looking from the drvrs side wheel)
and it goes to the hydraulic tree (that is just under the steering column..
I pulled it and took it to my local volvo shop, only for them to tell me it is a Dealer specific part...(Damn Damn Damn Damn!) approx price $50+ (Damn!)..I went to parts store to make one my self ÿnd I found that the line goes from 11mm NTP dbl flared to 13mm NTP dbl flared...I was like..ok I quit, so I waiting for the f-ing dealer on monday.....

Go find a bomber in the boneyard and grab the line you need.

If you can try to fix it first, depending on size of hole.
-First a similar story. Back before I got my brick I had a mustang SVO. I had one of those huge, heavy woofer boxes that took up the hole seat. Well I had this puppy on the back seat and was driving to my college in NJ. Well I'm haulin down 17 and some idiot cuts me off (lexus piece of %$#!). Nail the brakes and find out I have none. Cross the grass median and stop the car w/out a scratch.
In fords great engineering they ran the brake lines under the back seat and out to the rear axle. The weight of the box snapped the line. I removed the back seat and found a big puddle of brake fliud.
I went to Napa and picked up a brass hose fitting. Essentially it is used as a junction box where you slide the two ends in and they are joined together.
I think it cost all of $3.
Hope this helps or you at least get a giggle or 2.

Ouch; that sucks. Have fun bending that line to match the others!

Fortunately you probably didn't hurt the ABS unit. If the ABS light still functions (and goes out when you start the car) then forget about that problem.

I like your engine compartment.
