I have been debating this too. We bought a BMW less than 1 year ago, it had a clifford light on the dash, and alarm horn under the hood. After removing some dash parts we found the brain, but wires were cut. We dont have a remote either, thankfully Clifford kindly supplies lots of information on old alarms. All you need is the model number, their site supplied everything but install guide for ours.

I talked to an alarm installer, and he said usually they are disabled because of problems and it usually isnt worth the time to try and get it working again. Which is a shame, since the one in our car and probably yours is a quality one!

this should help you!

My '94 940 Turbo wagon has a crimestopper system on it. It was installed by the original owner. I have bypassed the starter motor interrupt and pulled all of the fuses to it. To me these cheaply built alarms and the poor wiring done to install them is not worth a plug nickel(whatever that is?). One of these days I will attempt to remove all of the different modules and rats nests under the dash and hood. I wish there was a manual available so that one could see where all the wires are connected. I would not attempt to hook your alarm back up especially since the previous owner told you of the trouble it caused. Just my 2 cents. Good luck with the 900!
