Main dual-speed electric cooling fan - how is it powered?

Hello.

I have a question. The electiric fan on a mid-90's 940 (or 960) has 2 power and 1 ground leads as far as I know. I'm wondering how the power leads are energized for the low and high speeds, respectively? It is a "lead-per-speed" setup or ONE hot wire is for the low, BOTH hot wires for the high?

Thank you all for help
Andrew

Not sure if 900 series are the same but the 800 series are lead for speed, and the relay is triggered by the ECU.
