760T Window Woes 700 1989

My 760T wagon has a problem with the drivers window not going all the way up and making a "clunking" at the top. I have tightened the bolts that hold the motor and am appreciative of any tips for correcting this. I can fully raise the window by hand once it is as high as the motor will take it. The remaining gap is less than an inch.

Thanks as always....

Hello
Had the same problem on my wifes 740. Bought a new motor and regulator for around $120.00 from all oem volvo parts. Took about 40 minutes to replace and works great.

You will probably find that the last few teeth on the regulator are stripped. Start looking for a used one. The dealer price is around $400.

Which is why I learned to mix epoxy and cut fiberglass ribbon. There are two places the regulators in my '86 740 have broken. The plastic regulators are way prone to cracking to failure. Fortunately you can fix them for $10 worth of epoxy and fiberglass.

If the teeth are worn away at the top it's not terminal. I took the regulator out and laid a single spot weld at the point where teeth used to be. Then I filed the teeth back into shape. It was only two teeth so not so onerous, and I saved the hundreds of dollars.

Grab the window when it's half way up. If you can shift it significantly at that position, the plastic of the regulator is cracked. If it's worn teeth the window should be solid except for that last inch.

A lot of the window regulators on 7 series seem to be losing teeth at the extreme end of travel.

sounds like a dying motor to me. Either that or the motor isn't getting enough juice. If teh latter check the wiring harness from the door to the cabin (where it passes through the jam) for cracked or worn wires.
