Does anyone know the origin of the word VOLVO or its meaning? Was it someones name? A combination of names? Just curious.

A little more history...

Two Swedes, Assar Gabrielsson and Gustaf Larson decided to start the car company in 1924. In 1926 SKF (Swedish ball bearing company) invested money in the project. SKF invested 200,000 SEK to become part owner of the company, then known as Aktiebolaget* Volvo. The first car came out of the factory April 14, 1927. In 1935, shares of the company could be purchased on the stock exchange in Stockholm.

Like ABBA, Volvo AB was named after its founders: Valdemar, Olaf, Lisse, Viktor, and Oddvar.

No, Not really!:)

I appreciated the snippet about the name coming from a bearing connotation. I was really trying to find out what 'Volvo' meant.

Yes. It means, roughly, "I roll."
Volvo was originally the name of a type of ball bearing Manufactured by SKF. At some point the Volvo group began designing automobiles. In the 30's they became independent of SKF.
