Girling brake calipers (rotary pistons or cup pistons)? 700

Greetings:

Does anyone know whether Girling brake calipers (I have girling) on a 88 740gle are rotary pistons or your regular cup pistons, and or a combination? I have 2 different sized sea-clamps, which certainly will not work on rotary calipers. Auto-zone rents (free) the set for a $40.00 refundable deposit. Please all responses are welcomed, i will be doing both sets front/rear tommorow, and would like to be prepared.

Thanks in Advance!

I just did my 86 740 T, which has Girling in front. I just C-clamped them using a piece of wood to cover the cups. Worked fine.

I have never heard of rotary piston disc brakes. Would you care to elaborate?

They are pistons that must be literally turned back into the caliper housing bore counter clockwise when the brake pads have worn down. Whereas the cup pistons can be forced back into the housing by using a c-clamp. I have these rotary style piston on my 96 nissan maxima se (rear only). But when you turn these rotary style pistons back into the bore you can sometimes you a pair of needle nose pliers (piston would have grooves to do so) or a special tool that Auto-zone rents specifically for this purpose. I am not trying to rebuild my calipers, i was just curious as to what type or style of piston there was. My Hanyes showed a picture of your typical caliper but, i figured with the wealth of info here i could fair a whole lot better, after all some of these manuals do have their limitations.

Best Regards

cup i believe 700

i think. i can't be certain, but if i recall correctly, about 2 years ago my cousin was working on my brakes and he had to compress the pistons back in a bit and he just squeezed it with a large set of ... not pliers, but you know, something... and it went back in without having to twist it.
