Rear axle gearing? 200

I've got ...well two now 240 turbos, one auto and one stick. What gearing is in each rear end?

I thought sticks were 3.73's and slushboxes were 3.31's then I read that is was the opposite somewhere....ahhhh now I can't find either spec!

Thanks guys,

Doug

Ask Paul Seminara (aka Amsoil dude, Pablos, Paul S., or whatever the hell he's called these days) about his 245ti. It used to be auto, but is now manual paired with the 3.91 rear ratio. I assume you're looking for shorter gearing, such as the 3.91, for better acceleration?

You will typically find the 3.31 in '83-'93 B23/230F powered cars with the M46/47 manual (I have it, sucks for acceleration)

3.73 will usually be in the '83-'93 B23/230F with the auto trans, and the B21FT with manual. These are very plentiful, and it's what I'm hoping to swap in some day.

3.91 is the B21FT auto and some older 240s including early manual cars.

3.54 is a little harder to find, but it was in some BWxx autos, some Diesel, some carb'd, etc.

4.10 was in some 242GT models, and maybe some really old 240s with auto transmissions.

BTW, the AW71 is the 4spd auto in the Turbo cars, and the AW70 is the 4spd auto in the non-turbo cars.

Cool, well I have a 3.71 and a 3.91 then. I'll probably take the 3.91 (its in my parts car anyways) and have atleast 4.10's put in it, possibly a bit steeper...course depending on budget. I might just go w/ the 3.91's for a bit.

Where abouts are you, I'll have an extra complete 3.71' rear end laying around in a month or two now.

3.73

Thanks, but I'm on the east coast, and I'd need an axle from an '86+ 240 for the electric speedo pickup.

I'm sure you can find someone who wants it, especially if it's free if picked up.

Based on the information I have for 82's, the Turbos with the M46 or AW71 had 3:73 rear ends. The cars with the BW55 had a 3:31 rear end.
