Headliner shop for 700's in DC area 700

Good day to all,

I would like to know if anyone knows of a competent shop in the Wash. DC area that can replace the headline on a 760 wagon. I've read all of the archives and it sounds like the best way to learn is to do 3 or 4 of them. I've only got one and I don't want to spend a weekend on the project and have it look like crap.

If you know of anybody, please let me know.

Thanks,

someguyfromMaryland

I use a shop off Twinbrook Drive and Veirs Mill road in Rockville. They're the local ASC sunroof/convertible top guys...go from Veirs Mill to Twinbrook Drive going toward 355, turn left at Parklawn, second or third street turn right and there's an upholstery shop. Adler & Mandel? 301-881-3525?

I have used Lim's Custom Upholstery in Tyson's Corner for seat reupholstery. He also does convertible tops and headliners. Look for his listing in the yellow pages. Excellent workmanship, fair price, reliable. I replaced the headliner on my 740 sedan using materials, and lots of advice and tricks of the trade supplied by him. It was time consuming, tedious and I did break the backer board in a couple of places but was able to repair it successfully with the all purpose tool.....duct tape. The result is fine.

It would be a lot of work, but you could get a good one from Brian Leppin's wrecking yard in Maryland and install it. Brian@volvousedparts.com

John,

I don't think a used headliner would be worth the effort, as I understand it the failure is age-related more than anything else. I only want to mess with this once.

Thanks for the suggestion though. I've used Brian before andvisited his year. Pretty good selection and he seems to be a good guy.

I do understand your concern about used headliners, and I have the same concerns. Two weeks ago I was replacing the headliner in our 1986 760T. The headliner looked good except for the sag in the material in the rear. Upon removal it was evident that the backboard of the headliner was too far gone to just install new foam backed fabric on. So, my son and I headed to the U-Pull It for a good used headliner board. Once at the U-Pull It we found a 1990 16 valve car which must have been garaged its entire life. We removed the entire headliner and the sunroor headliner and installed it in the 760T. It looks as good as anything I could have glued on.

The wagons are easier to do than the sedans because the headliner is removed through the tailgate opening. The sedans are tough because of all the manipulations to get the headliner through the right front door without damaging it.
