Need Help! '81 240DL 200

I am still trying to troubleshoot a no-start condition on my girlfriends 240DL.

I think I have it narrowed down to a fault in the fuel delivery system but I'll recap my efforts to date and maybe someone out there has some insight that my help me get this thing to running.

OK, to begin with when I spray starting fluid into one of the access ports in the intake manifold the car starts right up and runs fairly clean for a few seconds until the starting fluid is burned.

This would tell me that the ignition is ok.

(The original failure mode was that I was driving down the road doing about 45 mph when the engine just stopped running...no sputtering or lurching or anything just a coast to a stop)

I have disconnected the fuel inlet line to the fuel filter (located on the top side of the drivers side firewall)

When I try to start the car a small amount of gasoline comes out of the line but not what I would think that would be needed to pressurize the system).

My initial thoughts are that the fuel that I see is the result of the pump in the tank and not the one under the car. The fuel relay seels to be working ok.

(When I was trying to remove the fuel pump relay under the dash the cover came off of the relay so I was able to watch the relay work and it seems ok)

I next removed the fuse #7 and measured the current draw on that circuit and it measured around three (3) amps while I was cranking the car. My Haynes manual indicates the motor rating at 6.5A.

I'll continue to check the schematic tonight when I get home to see if anything else is on fuse 7.

Can someone tell me how much fuel should be coming out of the fuel line going to the filter when the pump should be running. Like I said, some does come out but it is not with sufficient force as to shoot out of the line with any significant force.

I am leaning towards a faulty pump but the something in the circuit is drawing about 3 amps so maybe the pump is ok.

By the way I connect a spart fuel injector to one of the injector circuits and the injector was firing away (clicking) whenever I would try to start the car
so I think the injectors and engine controller are ok.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

This is my first post to the forum and I did post one saturday and got a few response but but I didn't know what I was doing so it went to all forums. I think I got this one to just the 200 series.

Thanks to all for your help.
