Purchased new volvo 200 1987

Is anyone else having trouble logging on? I recently purchased a lovely blue 1987 245 wagon. Got for a steal because the OD wire was chafed and seller thought tranny was shot. Tested it on test drive and it worked fine. Anyway, I can't push the driver side door lock down when I get out of the car. It works fine while I am in the car, and I can lock it with a key. Is this some kind of cute anti-lock-out feature or something? Or is the lock linkage messed up somewhere. Just curious. The thing is perfect other than a missing reverse lens on the right side, got it ordered from IPD for 9.95. Beeeyooooteeful car, I like it. Thanks for the help, keep on a' truckin'.

That's normal, and it's a change from the earlier 240s. It's a welcome improvement to reduce the chances of locking your keys in the car.

In my '86, I usually open the back door for my briefcase and then push down the driver's button.

If you want to beat the system and lock the car without the key. Open the back door and reach into the front door to push down the door lock. If you push down hard it will lock all doors and trunk so be sure to have your keys in hand before shutting rear door.

it IS a feature Volvo put in deliberately.

It is a feature of both of my Volvo's also. Makes it impossible to lock yourself out of the car. I think it's brilliant. (have locked myself out of other cars more than once) so for me it's a God send! HT

My 88 does the same. I believe it to be designed to prevent otherwise thoughtful Volvo owners from locking their keys in the car.

It is a common feature on many European cars. My VW and both my BMW's had it. Even my 1973 2002!
